Doll Earrings Handmade from Fabric Scraps | SewMuchBetter
This upcycled fabric doll earrings piece began as a memory.
Tiny dolls Bhavya’s Dadi once crafted from fabric scraps,
with nothing but her hands and her heart. As co-founders
and best friends, Bhavya and Akriti grew up surrounded
by stories like this quiet symbols of womanhood,
tradition, and the art of making something out of nothing.
That figure stayed with us. A quiet muse we have been
drawn to ever since. So when it came time to design our
very first piece, we knew the doll had to be part of it.
Today, she returns reimagined from discarded fabric
scraps, shaped by hand, and rooted in memory. She is not
just a doll. She is a tribute to women who created beauty
out of whatever they had.
What You Are Wearing
Each Doll Earring is handcrafted from upcycled fabric
katran leftover scraps that fall away when we cut
fabric for our shirts, dresses, and sarees. No two dolls
are identical because no two Katran pieces are the same.
The face is hand-embroidered, the hair hand-stitched in
black thread, and a delicate pearl trim frames each tiny
head like a little crown. A fabric scarf is hand-tied
around her neck, and her dress flows out in soft,
frayed-edge fabric left raw on purpose, to celebrate
where she came from.
Materials: Upcycled fabric scraps (Katran), gold-tone metal,
glass pearl beads, hand embroidery thread
Earring hook: Gold-tone, lightweight
Length: Approx. 3 inches
Each pair: One of a kind fabric availability varies
Why Katran? Why Upcycled?
The fashion industry generates enormous fabric waste
scraps too small to stitch into garments but too good to
throw away. Most of it ends up in landfills. We saw it
differently. Just like Bhavya’s Dadi once did with her
own hands, we turn leftover fabric into something worth
keeping proof that nothing has to be wasted if you are
willing to look at scraps differently.
Handmade in Kanpur by Local Women Artisans
Every SewMuchBetter piece, including these doll earrings,
is handcrafted by skilled women artisans in Kanpur. We pay
fairly. We work slowly. We make fewer pieces because
real craft, like the one passed down to us, takes time
and care.
Sustainable Fashion Rooted in Memory
We started SewMuchBetter because sustainable fashion had
become boring, beige, and predictable. These doll earrings
are where it all began quirky, handmade, zero-waste, and
carrying a story that is deeply ours.
No two scraps are ever the same which means the pair
you receive is the only one like it in the world.
Wear a memory. Wear what almost became waste. Wear the
woman who started it all.
The upcycled fabric doll earrings you hold today carry
more than fabric they carry intention. Every scrap that
goes into making her dress, her scarf, her tiny embroidered
face, was once destined for a landfill. Instead, it became
art. Instead, it became memory.
At SewMuchBetter, sustainability is not a marketing word.
It is a practice we inherited quite literally, from a
grandmother who turned nothing into something beautiful
with her own two hands. These upcycled fabric doll earrings
are the closest thing we have to wearing that legacy.
When you choose handmade, upcycled jewelry over mass-produced
fashion, you are choosing a slower, more honest way of
dressing. You are choosing a piece that took time, care,
and skill to make not a machine, not a factory line, but
real hands shaping real fabric into something joyful.
This is who we are. This is what SewMuchBetter stands for.
Small batches. Honest materials. Stories worth telling.
