Our Story – SewMuchBetter

Our Story
SewMuchBetter is a sustainable fashion brand founded by two best friends, Akriti & Bhavya, who believe sustainable fashion should be the most exciting thing in your wardrobe, not the hardest thing to find. We exist to bring that back, not as nostalgia, not as premium, just as the correct, honest way to make clothing.
It started with a simple question we couldn’t stop asking ourselves: why does “sustainable” so often mean boring? Why does eco-conscious fashion have to look muted, apologetic, almost like it’s asking for forgiveness? We didn’t believe that. We knew colour, character and conscience could exist in the same piece of fabric, and we set out to prove it.
We work with local women whose creativity was always extraordinary, they just spent years being told that it wasn’t. Ritu Devi, from Ramaipur village, has been with us since March 2025, bringing our dolls, finishing touches and tassels to life with a precision that no machine can replicate. Our dyeing itself is led by Priya didi, Anjali, Nisha and the rest of our dyeing team, whose hands understand marigold, rose and hibiscus in a way that comes only from years of practice. Every piece that leaves our unit has passed through several of these skilled hands before it reaches you.
We are not here to sell you boring colours in the name of sustainable fashion. Marigold gives the sharpest yellow you have ever worn, rose brings out soft warm greens, and hibiscus runs deeper than any synthetic shade. These aren’t dyes we buy off a shelf. They come from temple flower waste, flowers that would otherwise be discarded after prayers and celebrations, and we give them a second life on fabric instead of letting them end up in landfills. We prove every single day that natural dyes were never meant to be dull.
Alongside natural dyeing, we eco-print, pressing real leaves and petals directly onto fabric so each piece carries its own one of a kind pattern, no two garments ever come out exactly alike. We also upcycle, taking fabric that would otherwise be wasted and turning it into accessories and new garments with fresh purpose. Nothing about our process is rushed, and nothing about it is mass produced.
In the age of AI and fast fashion, we are making one deliberate choice: we choose slow, we choose handmade, and we choose real. Every scarf, saree and garment that leaves our small production unit in Kanpur has passed through actual hands, not machines running on a schedule. That takes longer. We think it’s worth it.
This is also why we started SewMuchBetter in the first place, not just to make clothes, but to build a small, honest supply chain where flower waste doesn’t go to waste, where women with real skill get real recognition, and where sustainable fashion doesn’t ask you to compromise on how good you look or feel.
We are still a small brand, learning and growing with every collection, but our story so far has been about doing things the slower, truer way. If you’re someone who wants your wardrobe to say something real, who cares where your clothes come from and who made them, we think you’ll feel right at home here.
Welcome to SewMuchBetter. We’re glad you’re here.
